Feeling Incredibly Blessed this Morning {Asheville Photographer Personal Post}

asheville photographer - gratitude - living the dream - thank you

I’m feeling incredibly blessed this morning. I really am living my dream. As a college student, I always knew that I wanted to be a professional photographer. I had no idea how I was going to do it, I mean, HOW do professional photographers make it? How do they reach people? New clients? I had no idea what a business plan was let alone, how to create one. I just knew that I loved taking photos and that was what I would, one day end up doing to make a living. When “life” set in after college, I put my camera down. My creative self stayed busy with painting and singing occasionally and I started down different paths. I was a network designer for a time. I worked my way up (and down) in the food and beverage world but my heart was always in photography. My creative self thrives on my service to my clients and creating beautiful portraits for each and every one of them. I am so thankful for that.

Personally, I believe that each of us was given a talent and in order to be successful in life, it is our duty to master that talent, our craft. In that journey to mastery we water that garden to bloom to fruition, to be our very best self. Personally, I am a creator. I love, love, LOVE creating! At times, the maintenance can be tough to keep a hold of but then, I am reminded that the maintenance is what allows our creation to thrive.

Am I the best business person? Not always. I do have stumbles from time to time but I have a pretty strong grasp on business as a whole. I am learning more and more every day and I am thankful for those lessons. It allows me to perfect my service and my product to my clients and when I can bring joy to them, I am winning.

Am I the best photographer? The best artist? Not by a long shot, but I work daily to master my craft and my faith in my artistic self knows no bounds. There are artists all over the world that I follow and draw inspiration from and pull into my own work, to let my work and ability evolve to be better every day.

I am so thankful today. My past, present and future clients allow me to live my dream. I love each and every one of them for that. Each of us has a story and I love getting to know every woman who walks through my door. My job is to photograph you. My love is capturing your personality, your spirit and your story and I am deeply humbled by each and every one of you. Thank You. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love in order to provide for my family and live the life I want to live.

With never-ending gratitude,

Cat

What are you getting Mom for Mother’s Day {Asheville Portrait Photographer}

Let me ask you a question, when was the last time you had professional portraits taken with your Mother? With your sisters? With your daughters?

No, I don’t mean iPhone snaps from a family dinner that someone posted on Facebook, I mean real portraits. Do you exist in photos with your children? What pictures do you have of and with your parents? Your grandparents?

About ten years ago, my mom and grandmother and I even went to a big box store just to have an image taken of the 3 of us. (I swear this was before my career…don’t tell) This picture is soooo bad…and I love it. It is terrible. Sepia tone, white fuzzy border, gracious its awful. I love this picture because it is OF us, the three of us. Convincing took some coaxing for sure “Oh honey, let’s do it next time you’re here, I’ll work out more.” “Gosh! My hair is a mess”…and the list goes on. I don’t care. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to do it because now I have a framed print of, arguably two of the most influential women in my life. Two women I am proud to call family.

What would your answer be when I ask what are you getting Mom for Mother’s Day?

My personal recommendation is a makeover and photo shoot with Studio 828 Photography. Better yet, a girl’s day with you, your sisters, Mom and Aunt Sheila! I can promise your imagery will be quite the opposite of my experience with that big box store. šŸ™‚ Don’t forget to take Mom our for dinner following your Asheville photo session with us. You will look fierce!

Celebrate your relationships. Book a session today.

Teen Empowerment through Modeling {Asheville Teen Photographer}

Shooting for young women is ALWAYS some of my favorite photography work. As a young woman myself I was a part of a youth theatre and education program, The Source Teen Theatre) and it was here where I learned that knowledge and performance are amazing tools for the youth of our society. Allowing tweens and teens to discover their own light brings about such amazing transformations both in imagery and in their own person.

Do you remember being in middle and high school? Do you remember the drama? The bullying? The cliques? There is so much happening in a teen’s life and oftentimes, these young adultsĀ can feel powerless, and lost in the crowd. By giving these young people an opportunity to stand out and star in their own performance, you give them the power to not only be involved in the vision for their shoot (preparing their outfits and communicating their own dream of being photographed) but, you are also trusting them to be that star. When you trust your kids, they learn that they can trust themselves and their own instincts. It is absolutely incredible to watch that transformation take place. You can see it as their confidence grows during the shoot.

Last summer was the last time I had an opportunity to shoot for a young woman so I am sooooo grateful Shelby and her Mom found me! WhileĀ I do require that a parent/guardian be on set for any shoot with a client under 18 years of age, I think Shannon was just as excited as her daughter! We had so much fun on set and her pictures are beautiful! Thank you so much for reminding me how incredible it is to shoot for teens.
