“Mothers, Daughters, Sisters” {A Portrait Book 2}

“Mothers, Daughters, Sisters” a portrait book.

Just wow. I cannot even tell you how incredible this journey is. Over the past month I have enjoyed the company of some amazing women, all sharing stories about their daughters, step daughters, granddaughters, sisters. Birth stories, victories, heartfelt moments…We laugh and some even cry about these times together. It is mesmerizing.

I sat down to write some for the book tonight. I’ve been editing these amazing images and meeting with each of the women involved…It just takes my breath away. One thing is for sure though, this book is so much more than my portrait work. It is sharing the light that each of these women carries, their hearts, their souls, and everything they want to say.

After much thought, I’ve decided to expand the scope of this project. Originally, I had only planned on including a handful of women that had shown interest in the book. Frankly, after being a part of these women’s lives even for a short period and creating this artwork with them, how could I not expand to allow others who want to participate?

If you are interested in having a portrait session with us with your mom, daughter, granddaughter, sister, or cousin, we would love to have you. We have extended the shoots into the summer to accommodate families and the Buncombe county school schedule. You can review all of the details on our website here. It will give you all of the preliminary details about participation, expectation, and costs and of course, you can reach out directly with any questions and to apply.

This weekend alone I photographed a three generations shoot for a grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter that simply set my soul on fire! And then a mother and daughter photo shoot with a young high school sophomore that reminded me so much of my younger self. They are all exactly WHY I do what I do. I love creating and having these wonderful hearts in our studio to showcase their love for one another…I can’t even describe it. This imagery will be cherished by each of them and their children’s children for generations. Wow! Just, wow.

Thank you to everyone who has participated to this point and I cannot wait to photograph many more of you to showcase in our portrait book, “Mothers, Daughters, Sisters”.

Apply to be considered for inclusion in our portrait book, “Mothers, Daughters, Sisters”

Meet Audra, Beautiful Audra

Meet Audra, beautiful Audra. A funny, outgoing, and kind professional here in western North Carolina. We just loved having her here in the studio with us for her beautiful portrait shoot. We had a ball with the amazing dresses that she brought, and different makeup looks so that we could provide her with a wide variety of images. From professional branding imagery to dramatic portraits, I am in love with everything we produced with her.

woman - entrepreneur - beautiful - true self

So many clients come to us thinking that there is no way they could ever look like the women on our website. They’re worried that they “aren’t photogenic” or are “terrible in front of a camera”. I’ll let you in on a little secret, it isn’t your job to be photogenic. It is my job to give you direction and example throughout your photo shoot so that your portraits showcase only your best self.

When was the last time you had professional portraits made? Were they with anyone special? Were they to celebrate a victory or time in your life? We would love to photograph you in our Asheville photo studio. Reach out for your personal consultation. We can chat about what you have in mind for your photo shoot and go from there.

I look forward to meeting you.

Kindly,

Cat

We are going to Barcelona!

We are going to Barcelona! Can you even believe it? I’m still pinching myself!!! The trip is two-fold:

  • Reunion of my international team of photographers from Paris this Spring where there will be days upon days of photo shoots, beach adventures, and smiles!
  • We are booking destination photo shoots in Barcelona and Gava Sept 26-28

We have a studio booked in Gava and will be offering dream photo shoots in the city as well as in the studio for the best of both worlds. My photographer friends has assured me that we will have only the best locations scouted (she sends me pictures almost daily) and assistance so that we can create the most beautiful imagery for our clients. There are however, only 3 appointments available for such an adventure with us.

Book in today.

Mother and Daughter Photo Shoot in Asheville

Nicola and Kerrington were an absolute JOY to photograph! I think I’ll be seeing Kerrington again to intern for me down the line 😀 She was so sweet and we had a wonderful time dancing, and laughing, and shooting all afternoon.

They’ve joined me for our portrait book project and wow! I am so grateful for their participation. The more and more families I meet, the more excited I get for publishing!

I don’t have anything to wear for a photo shoot

“I don’t have anything to wear for a photo shoot. Help!” We hear this all the time. Go ahead, take a breath. Preparing for a photo shoot can sometimes feel overwhelming. I’ve been there, not just as a photographer but as a client too. You think to yourself “Oh this will be so much fun!” and “I haven’t had a professional portrait made since my wedding.” and then you look into your closet and it stops you in your tracks. “Oh…now I remember WHY I haven’t.” Your closet is filled to the brim with a whole bunch of dresses and outfits… for work. Borrrrrrring. Or…”None of my beautiful clothing fits anymore.”

I hear that.

Let’s take it through, step by step.

You’ve found a photographer and you love their photography portfolio. She seems really nice, and has given you all of this advice about how to dress in photos: textures like lace, velvet, and chiffon are beautiful in portraits. You start poking around in your closet and realize that the nicest outfit that you own IS your wedding dress, or worse yet, some god awful bridesmaids dresses that you wore 15 years ago. Everything else is covered in patterns or doesn’t fit right anymore and your heart sinks. Sure, you can handle the part where you show up with a clean face and dry hair, and getting a mani-pedi the week of your shoot but, what on earth are you going to wear???

First: decide on the style of photo shoot that works best for you.

  • are you drawn to a Calvin Klein type of look with a white tank top and jeans?
  • maybe you prefer fun sequins or flowing dresses?
  • you’re in need of new branding for your business but, you aren’t sure how to tie in your “work” attire to the high end clients you’re working to attract and connect with?
  • is your shoot a gift for your special someone and you’re thinking that something with implied nudity or vintage lingerie is the way to go?

There are many ways to go about this.

  1. jeans and a white tank top. I think we can all wrap our heads around that I think
  2. Clothing Rental: Rent the Runway , what a wonderful place! You know that you would love some seriously beautiful Hollywood style glamour for your portraits but, you also aren’t trying to spend $3000 on new gowns for your photo shoot. When will you wear them again? That is why RTR is one of my favorite resources! Beautiful designer pieces whether you’re shopping for stunning gowns or polished business attire for the sophisticated and chic fashionista.
    1. And, if you’re unsure of what to choose, we can absolutely take measurements and order the perfect outfits for you. You name the budget, choose your favorite colors and styles and BAM! Wardrobe is taken care of!
  3. Maybe you want to OWN some beautiful new clothing. You’re upping your style game and you’re ready to add to your collection. Here are some options below for fabulous resources:
    1. Asos – Perfectly feminine collections. From their house brand to Needle and Thread, Asos is FAB! A little on the pricier side of things but the quality is absolutely worth every stitch.
    2. Boohoo.com – Super fun and fem also but the quality isn’t quite as high. Dresses are ideal for photo shoots, prom, and the one night wedding guest.
  4. Vintage style lingerie is a little trickier. For this, I recommend:
    1. Dollhouse Bettie – great introduction to the history of lingerie and designers. Their corset selection is small but beautifully femme
    2. What Katie Did – larger selection and some styles to die for!
    3. We can also pose you, beautifully backlit on a mattress with a white sheet for those looking for the more implied style. It is simply beautiful!

I hope this info has helped you feel a little more comfortable about the many options available to you for your photo shoot. It isn’t as scary as you might think and there are so many options! We would love to help design your photo shoot for you and would love to chat about how you’re envisioning being photographed!
